An amazing windowfront in Rome + a thousand eggs for you all.
The big blue egg measured about a foot or so.

Designs for the Printed Page

Fortune. page4_5

Fortune. page24_25

Designs for the printed page.
A thoughtful promotion for Fortune magazine designed in (1957?) by the incredible and witty Leo Lionni. More spreads here.

Lionni interprets each design's intent…
page 4
Variations in size and color on a constant theme (a trademark perhaps?).

page 5 In black space (often more effective than white space) delicate lines weave a strong pattern.

page 14
Photography can have the quality of design if it follows the principles that govern design.

page 15
A half-page sacrifices half of its space to create its own generous margin and to move its center of gravity toward the middle of the page.

page 24–25
When a design expands from the center to the margins the space seems larger. ariations within repeated symmetries add vitality to the forms.

Make sure to watch: Leo makes a mouse!

color in me neighborhood!

I particularly love the quilt of quilts. The early birds marked their spots at the mayday festival last month——unintentionally creating quite a masterpiece!

if I were a toddler

Look at these kiddie clothes from the Teenytini Collection. The balance of colors are perfect! If only they came in adult sizes… another incentive to learn to crochet.
found via my sister.

WOW!

02.02.10 is groundhogs day

Sample exercises from the letterpress class I'm taking——OH, the possibilities of handset type + handinking!!! I was quite excited to print a few sheets of stationary commemorating groundhog's day and my kiddo's third birthday.

These small cards may contain a few handy and amusing tips for the upcoming school year. If not helpful, they sure are pretty.

Mon Oncle

We watched Tati's Mon Oncle last night—so much to love about this film—the color, the architecture, quirky gardens and gadgets, idiosyncratic characters… Look at M. and Mme. Arpels' neighbor's red dress, hat, shoes and top—perfect in every way! The opening bit will sell you on the film, if you haven't already seen it. Next in line for me is Play Time.

curious goods

More roadtrip photos from many years ago——I wonder if these signs and stores are still around?
The Curious Goods storefront is perfect especially when captured on polaroid film.
