lineage

Happy Mother's Day Mum's!
The day was perfect here: a family fun day PLUS some solo time in my garden. We spent the morning with my sister (Jen's a new mom), ate an obnoxious amount of food, rearranged my garden. Our fine friends (Erik and Beth—not the squirrel) even did a drop by with flowers!

special folder of fun

As my semester winds down and the computer cleanup begins—special things have been re-discovered on my harddrive. These four images are amongst many in my "Anti-Hierarchy/Excess" folder.

> MAX / Dishes. Minneapolis!
> Yikes, my parents have been holding these for my sister me. I don't remember being doll crazy?
> Gas + Jerky! Taken in northern michigan ?
> Crazytown exhibit at the MN state fair. One of my favorite case studies in what not to do.

young rats

A little Calder and a couple spreads from Three Young Rats by Alexander Calder. Just all around awesome!

The book was first published in 1944 in an edition of 60 copies with an original drawing & signed by Calder as well as an edition of 700 copies. I recently purchased a 2nd edition published by Museum of Modern Art, 1946.

Scans are from my book and photographs found here and here.

seaside

A little Estonian seaside! These were taken a couple years back with my fine friend Costance Kilgore. Shown here, is a handsome windmill (yes, he has a pipe in his mouth) and various cairns on the Estonian island, Saaremaa. Mister-windmill did have a female companion, but she's now a heap of rubble. Sad, but true.

Our warmer weather makes me long for big big water, rocks, swimming fun, travel and getting out of landlocked midwest. We booked our tickets to Wales—hurray to a soon-to-be vacation!

Some good things from last week.

My kiddo inherits my kitty 'gumparker' and is enjoying it as much as I did/do.

+

I particularly enjoyed the loving lobsters resting in plexi-heart-frame. The note inside says it can be purchased for $100.00.

Some of my favorites from: On Language.
The exhibit would be great to see, if only I were in newyork.
Kinda crazy > my name sits amongst the true wordstars!

"In late 2005, The New York Times Magazine's On Language column, a weekly reflection on current usage of the English language (traditionally written, since 1979, by William Safire), took a new visual turn. Instead of simply typesetting the headline each week in standard fashion, then-Art Director Arem Duplessis (who is now the Design Director) saw an opportunity to create something more; a forum for typographic play. He proposed that a different artist, designer or illustrator interpret that headline every week instead. Five years and well over two hundred contributors later, the On Language column has become a showcase for contemporary typography. Curated over the years by Kristina DiMatteo, Gail Bichler, Leo Jung, Hilary Greenbaum, Cathy Gilmore-Barnes, Aviva Michaelov and Robert Vargas… " from the The Society of Publication Designers
