The lion and the unicorn

"The lion and the unicorn were fighting for the crown;
The lion beat the unicorn all about the town.
Some gave them white bread and some gave them brown;
Some gave them plumb cake and drummed them out of town."

A popular English nursery rhyme from when Scotland (unicorn) and England (lion) were rivals.
The lion and the Unicorn remain a part of the British coat-of-arms to this day. [As it goes... the unicorn is chained because in mediaeval times a free unicorn was considered a very dangerous beast (only a virgin could tame a unicorn].

On Britian's coat of arms resides their motto: Dieu et mon Droit [French for 'God and my right'].

on-the-go games

I picked these up a number of years ago on Canal Street—the boxes are quite small, they fit in your back pocket.. I love everything about them… the unintential off-registered printing, color combos, superthin paper stock and illustrations are just perfect-O.

Ls and Qs hurray!

I was on a road-trip, but I can't recall the location of this fine place... somewhere in wisconsin or michigan... I think it was near water... maybe it was out east. regardless, the typography (amazingly dangly descender) and architecture is quite inviting, eh?

does anyone know the location?

welcome back to school!

we've started back up at minneapolis college of art and design after a fairly restful holday break. I'm super excited about the classes that I'm teaching: graphic design one and two and typography one. Some handwork will transpire this semester...

summer jimmy with sword

I just found these photos of Jimmycat—nestled between screen and sword—enjoying a nice breezy summer day. Oh, I miss my summer bedroom (I love dazing at the dreamy old silkscreened wallpaper). We're fully ready for warm weather so we can move back upstairs to the unheated attic.

barometers

These are my favorite and trusty weather devices... when the children come out to play the weather is fine; on the other hand, when ms. witch is face forward the weather is not so kind.

2 seriously useful things---under an inch!

gummy squirrel erasure and gummy monogram labels! everything about these vintage gummy office supplies makes me happy!

so here's the question: the box of monograms was originally 5cents and I paid 5dollars... is that 10,000% inflation?
