one of my favorite vintage postcards

"controversial hill figure"

this is certainly worth the drive if you're anywhere in this part of the world [dorset county, england]. A little folklore... For hundreds of years it was local custom to erect a maypole upon the earthwork about which childless couples would dance to promote fertility, and even today childless couples are known to visit the site in order to copulate in the hope that they might conceive a child.

Jubilee!

Jubilee Pool in Penzance, Cornwall. This lido opened in 1935 and is the largest seawater tidal swimming pool still in use in the UK. The pool really is triangular and the water was chilly.

GO-GO-GO SEE! KIOSK: Modes of Multiplication

KIOSK: Modes of Multiplication is a nomadic exhibition of artist books, catalogs, periodicals, video and audio projects that has been continually growing as it has traveled over the past seven years. It currently comprises approximately 6,000 titles from roughly 400 independent publishers from around the world. The project provides a rich overview of activities within the rapidly expanding field of independent publishing activities from the past ten years. Consequently, it offers a broad perspective on the various models of dissemination and distribution of artistic ways of working in printed media and an idea of the diverse strategies, motivations and programs of the participating publishers’ projects.

KIOSK was initiated by Christoph Keller.

to put on hook squeeze lightly with fingers to warm and soften pellet.

I have never seen a bait vending machine—nor could I fathom one this CUTE...
Several varieties to pick from: mixed pellets, white and red maggots and even worms @ 2 pounds. The machine is located at a petrol station and if I remember correctly in the small town of Cherry Hinton (southeast of Cambridge England).

sweets from my garden

My zinnia crop was pretty small this year... at any rate I do love this small sampling! I had to do a mini-harvest, since minnesota had a frost the other night. We had to close the windows it was so chilly.
