real quick post

I love this photo. The Guardian has many more where this came from.

Is it true that we had 30 days of subzero weather this winter? At any rate, the last couple days have been quite balmy. Hurray! But the warmth is making a mess of our skating rinks. Booohoo.

in michigan

Great old family slides from the fantastic Jenna. If I do recall they were taken from on Macinac Island at the Grand Hotel.

Plus: old michigan postcards!

northeast mpls

We visited Tim's old studio building in Northeast Minneapolis--he had a huge and lovely space to paint in for a number of years——both of us still have a crush on the building and studio and view.

The weather continues to be outrageously cold but snowpants, furry hats and proper attire do make it manageable. Both of our cars are kaputt so we've been walking which is rather refreshing. Feeling a bit dreary about my imminent obligations although the sun has been shining bright.

The Snow Queen + pretty mitts

-----------------

Sweet sweet mittens——perhaps someday I'll learn to read a knitting pattern.

The Snow Queen and the other Concora books were introduced to me by Ms. Tondera. This series of kiddie books have elegant, simple and graphic covers and they're of great proportion (tall and narrow). They were published by the grand Container Corporation of America and Rand McNally in the late50s / early60s.

michigan

We went to Michigan over the holidays... there was heaps of snow, a 60degree day, delicious home-cooked food, the best falafel, toooo-much drink, cable tv, thoughtful gifts and the best company. We were all spoiled.

I've taken a couple weeks off——just basic surviving and an occasional indulgence.

locals excursions

in order: the Arboretum, the Guthrie (that mighty spider is 5 stories up and on the outside), a walk with my parents' dog, the garage at night, Minnesota Zooooo, and the great and icy Powderhorn.
